Dear United Religions Cooperation Circle Leader,
I’m writing today to take a moment to introduce myself and to share my interest in representing you as a Trustee for North America on the United Religions Initiative Global Council.
I’m Michael Pappas, http://sfinterfaithcouncil.org/pappas_bio.html Executive Director of the San Francisco Interfaith Council (SFIC is a URI Cooperation Circle), Commissioner on the San Francisco Human Rights Commission and a member at large of the URI North America Region Leadership Council. In all of these capacities I am energized to work diligently to advance the Preamble, Purpose and Principals of the URI.
As the San Francisco Interfaith Council is located in the Presidio, in close proximity to URI’s Global Headquarters, our Council has had the unique opportunity to partner closely with the URI global office on a number of important projects. This experience paved the way to my serving you on the URI North America Region Leadership Council for the past three years. Together with my colleagues on that body, we have sought to develop creative and effective ways to connect and offer resources that support and celebrate the important interfaith work being done in the North America region.
My personal vision toward expanding and enriching the scope of URI in the North America Region is twofold: First, I believe that we need to reach out to the numerous existing interfaith groups that are not currently part of the URI family, yet whose work is consistent with URI’s mission and vision, and engage them to become Cooperation Circles or Affiliates; Second, I believe that the Region needs to draw upon the rich work already being done in the existing Cooperation Circles and create portals of communication so that CC’s engaged in like work can share best practices and learn from one another. Facilitating connectivity in such creative ways will insure a bright and healthy future for our rich global network.
The accomplishments that have emerged from URI NA Region Leadership Council’s existing collaborations along with a personal commitment to this vision for the future have inspired me to be of greater service to URI.
I consider your input invaluable as to the needs of your particular Cooperation Circle and ways that the North America Region Leadership Council and the Global Council may be of greater service to your CC. Please do not hesitate to email that feedback to mgpappas.sfic@gmail.com.
I would consider your vote in the upcoming Global Trustee selection both a privilege and sacred trust. If selected, I pledge to nurture the conversation we have begun today and faithfully to serve the needs of your Cooperation Circle and the URI North America region.
